HST - In effect July 1, 2010 June 2, 2010 The HST or ‘Harmonized Sales Tax’ was introduced by the Ontario government in the 2009 provincial budget.
The government is replacing the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) with a new tax that is combined with the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) to create one, single ‘harmonized’ tax (the HST).
The provincial portion of the HST is eight per cent while the federal portion remains five per cent, for a combined rate of 13 per cent.
